HYDRA-R Reformed Methanol Fuel Cell for Long-Duration Off-Grid Power

Hydrogen-on-demand from methanol for silent, autonomous power in remote and infrastructure-limited environments.

Built for Long-Duration Autonomous Off-Grid Power

HYDRA-R is engineered for missions where grid access is limited, fuel logistics are costly, and uninterrupted operation matters. Its reformed methanol architecture generates hydrogen on demand, enabling quiet, autonomous power for remote infrastructure, security systems, telecom sites and industrial applications.

Low Operating Cost

Methanol is a widely available liquid fuel that is easier to store and transport than compressed hydrogen. HYDRA-R generates hydrogen on demand, reducing the logistics complexity associated with remote power deployment.

All-Weather Off-Grid Operation

Designed for demanding environments, HYDRA-R operates from -40°C to +50°C and has been proven at altitudes up to 3,500 m. Integrated thermal management supports reliable startup and continuous operation in challenging field conditions.

Long-Duration Autonomous Power

HYDRA-R targets system efficiency above 35%, compared with approximately 20–25% for typical direct methanol fuel cells. By converting methanol into hydrogen before the fuel cell stack, HYDRA-R avoids direct methanol crossover and improves fuel utilization.

Why Reformed Methanol Outperforms Direct Methanol

Direct methanol fuel cells generate electricity directly from methanol, while HYDRA-R first reforms methanol into hydrogen and then uses a PEM fuel cell stack to generate power. This architecture separates the liquid fuel from the electrochemical stack and avoids the methanol crossover associated with direct methanol systems.

Core 2 On‑Board
Higher Electrical Efficiency
HYDRA-R targets system efficiency above 35%, compared with approximately 20–25% for typical direct methanol systems. Higher efficiency means more electrical energy can be extracted from the same quantity of fuel during long-duration operation.

Reduced Methanol Crossover
Because methanol is reformed into hydrogen before reaching the fuel cell stack, the PEMFC does not directly process liquid methanol. This architecture can reduce crossover-related performance losses and support longer stack operating life.

50% Methanol-Water Fuel
A methanol-water mixture reduces the concentration of pure methanol while providing a practical feedstock for hydrogen generation. The liquid fuel format is suited to transport, storage and field resupply.

Silent Methanol Fuel Cell Operation — ≤45dB
With acoustic output of ≤45 dB, HYDRA-R is designed for applications where low noise and minimal vibration matter. This makes it suitable for surveillance, remote sensing, security monitoring and other sensitive field operations..

Designed for Long-Duration Missions
The advantage of RMFC becomes more significant as operating hours increase. Higher fuel utilization, low maintenance requirements and autonomous operation make the technology particularly suitable for remote power missions lasting days or weeks.
